With Norman cellars that date back to the 12th century and hidden passageways within some of its chambers, this inn provides a historic lodging experience in Rye. It boasts a substantial open log fireplace in the bar, alongside an award-winning restaurant.

Reconstructed in 1420, The Mermaid Inn has hosted notable figures including Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and Prince Edward, as well as various celebrities and artists. It retains numerous enchanting, traditional elements, including a secret staircase concealed behind a bookshelf.

The restaurant has garnered two AA Rosettes for its exquisite French and British cuisine. The lounge bar was once a haunt for local smugglers and features a large wooden beam supported by stone columns.
