The Hacienda Guamag Protective Forest and Vegetation is situated within the buffer and influence zone of the Sangay National Park, marking the beginning of the Llanganates – Sangay Ecological Corridor, in the Ulba parish of the Baños de Agua Santa canton in Tungurahua province.

Access to the lodging at the Forest and Vegetation Protector Hacienda Guamag is via our tarabita, which traverses the Pastaza River, located 6 km from Baños along the route to Puyo and the gateway to the Amazon. It’s just minutes from the beautiful waterfalls of the Mantle of the Bride and Pailón del Diablo.

The vegetation coverage at the Forest and Protective Vegetation Hacienda Guamag reflects the low and central montane Evergreen Forest ecosystem of the eastern Andes ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 meters above sea level. Here, one can encounter both primary and secondary forests featuring species such as mandur, alder, guarumo, myrtle, cedar, as well as shrubs including ferns, heliconias, begonias, anthuriums, orchids, and more.

Hacienda Guamag has become the first Protective Forest to incorporate criteria and mechanisms focused on safeguarding water resources, as outlined in Ministerial Agreement No. 2021-28 from the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, published in Official Register No. 527 on August 31, 2021.
